He developed a passion for journalism at a younger age and eventually started his career in broadcasting as a staff announcer at the Manila Broadcasting Company in 1969.
Enriquez worked at the Freedom Broadcasting Network, and Radio Mindanao Network (RMN), where he became vice president of the company, and a board member.
Later he became the Consultant for radio operations of GMA Network, president of the network’s regional and radio subsidiary, RGMA Network Inc., and the Station Manager of Super Radyo DZBB 594 AM.
His transfer to GMA opened doors to television broadcasting with his first on-cam appearance as an anchor for an election coverage with broadcast journalist, Karen Davila.
After his successful TV debut, Enriquez went ahead to anchor the network’s top news and public affairs programs.
Sadly, the veteran broadcast journalist has passed on. Mike Enriquez died at 71 on Tuesday, August 29, GMA announced via its official and verified Instagram account;
“It is with profound sadness that GMA Network announces the passing of our beloved Kapuso, Mr. Miguel “Mike” C. Enriquez, who peacefully joined our Creator on August 29, 2023.
Enriquez, 71, was one of the anchors of GMA’s flagship newscast “24 Oras” and hosted the long-running public affairs program “Imbestigador.” He also served as President of RGMA Network, Inc. and GMA Network’s Senior Vice President and Consultant for Radio Operations.
He also anchored DZBB’s “Super Balita sa Umaga” and “Saksi sa Dobol B.” He joined the broadcast industry in 1969 and then became part of GMA Network in 1995, wholeheartedly serving the Filipino audience for 54 years.
The Board of Directors, management, and employees of GMA Network, Inc. deeply mourn the passing of Mr. Enriquez. His dedication to the industry will serve as an inspiration to all. We pray for the eternal repose of our beloved Kapuso.
The veteran broadcast journalist, Mike Enriquez died today (Tuesday, August 29, 2023) At this time of writing the cause of his death has not been announced.
However, Enriquez has been sick for a while. In August 2018, he went on a medical leave due to a couple of ailments such as kidney disease and diabetes.
He underwent a heart bypass and later returned to broadcasting on November 26, 2018. In December 2021, he took another medical leave, during which he underwent a kidney transplant.
He returned to his programs on March 28, 2022, in time for GMA’s coverage of the 2022 Philippine presidential election. After the elections, he took a leave off-air for three months
