Cabrera made his MLB debut in 2003 and went on to win two American League (AL) Most Valuable Player (MVP) awards, four AL Batting Championships, and 12 All-Star selections.

For most of his major league career, he played first base and third base, but before 2006, his primary positions were left and right field. In 2012, he won the MLB Triple Crown for the 17th time, making that season the first in 45 years.

Along with Hank Aaron and Willie Mays, Cabrera is one of only three players in MLB history to have a career batting average above 300, 500 home runs, and 3,000 hits. One of baseball’s all-time best hitters is known as Cabrera.

Tigres de Aragua signed 16-year-old Cabrera to a contract in the Venezuelan Winter League. At the age of 16 years and 8 months, he registered his first professional hit in this league in December 1999.

The Florida Marlins signed Cabrera as an amateur free agent in 1999, and he advanced through their minor league system. At the age of 20, he made his MLB debut in the middle of 2003, and later that year, he helped the Marlins win the World Series.

Before being traded to the Detroit Tigers before the 2008 season, Cabrera played regularly for the Marlins during the course of the following four seasons.

Cabrera led the AL in 2012 with a batting average of.330, 44 home runs, and 139 runs batted in (RBI), winning the Triple Crown for the first time since 1967 and the AL MVP honor.

Cabrera was on track to surpass his statistics from his previous Triple Crown season in the first half of 2013. Before the all-star break, he became the first player to ever hit 30 home runs and 90 RBIs, and he was on track to bat 366 with 53 home runs and 167 RBIs at that point.

However, the latter half of the season was largely marred by injuries, which had an impact on both his performance and playing time.

Overall, Cabrera outperformed his batting average from the previous season, hitting 348 for a career-high, and winning his second straight AL MVP title.

Cabrera has over 300 hitting average in 11 separate seasons and has won four AL batting titles, including three in a row (2011–2013).

He has over 100 runs batted in in 12 different seasons, including 11 straight from 2004 to 2014, and has hit 30 or more home runs in 10 different seasons.

In career home runs and hits by a Venezuelan player, respectively, Cabrera has surpassed Andrés Galarraga and Omar Vizquel. He became the eighth player in MLB history to attain both milestones, joining the club of players with 500 home runs and 3,000 hits in 2021 and 2022, respectively.

He will continue to work for the Tigers organization as a special assistant to the president of baseball operations after his retirement in 2023.
