Michael Flynn was born on December 24, 1958, in Middletown, Rhode Island, as one of nine children of banker Charles and real estate worker Helen. In 1972, he received recognition for rescuing two toddlers from an oncoming car. However, he also faced juvenile detention for his involvement in “unlawful activity.”

He attended Middletown High School and later studied at the University of Rhode Island, graduating in 1981 with a Bachelor of Science degree in management science. Flynn continued his education, earning an MBA in telecommunications from Golden Gate University and further master’s degrees from institutions like the United States Army Command and General Staff College and the Naval War College.

Flynn entered the US Army in 1981 as a second lieutenant in military intelligence. He served at various locations, including Fort Bragg, Schofield Barracks, Fort Polk, and Fort Huachuca. His military service extended to the invasion of Grenada in 1983.
