Victoria Monet followed this with the EP’s Life After Love, Pt. 1 and Life After Love, Pt. 2 in February and September 2018 respectively. Jaguar, an EP was released in August 2020, and Jaguar II will come out on August 25, 2023.

Victoria Monet was born in Atlanta, Georgia, and moved to Sacramento, California as a child. Her mother is L’Tanya Chestang-Cubit and her maternal grandmother is Cassaundria Lovett of Mobile, Alabama. She has an older half-brother named Michael Cubit, Jr.

In Catholic elementary school, she appeared on stage in holiday plays, and in church, she sang in the youth choir. In college, she formed her dance group; this led to teaching in two dance studios. She attended Sheldon High School in Sacramento after begging her mother to change her address so she could attend Sheldon’s performing arts program.

In addition to dance rehearsals, Victoria Monet began a poetry exchange with an older cousin and found a new passion. This quickly translated into writing her music. During that time, she taught herself about the world of production, learned about producers, and was making music at a local recording studio.

She had heard about Rodney Jerkins (aka Darkchild) and decided to add him to Myspace. Soon after, he invited her to Los Angeles and audition for a new girl group he was forming Purple Reign. The group landed a recording contract with Motown a year later but was canceled before releasing any music.

After the group disbanded, Victoria Monet turned to songwriting to earn money while waiting for her music career to develop. The first song she wrote was a track from Diddy’s 2010 album Dirty Money, Last Train to Paris. She continued to write the song’s hook and sang the demos herself before sending them off.

Songwriting remained her main source of income during the early part of her musical career.
