The American professional basketball player, Juan Ronel Toscano-Anderson was born in April 10th 1993. Juan was born to an African-American father and a Mexican-American mother. Juan shares the same parents with Avery Toscano and Ariana Toscano.
Early Life
Juan Ronel Toscano-Anderson was born East Oakland in California in the United States of America. Juan’s maternal grandparents migrated from Michoacan to the United States of America in 1960s. Since Toscano-Anderson was born and reared in the United States, he learned to speak Spanish as a child and observed both Mexican and American holidays. His current jersey number, 95, is a nod to the 95th Avenue home he grew up in Oakland. Career
Toscano-Anderson made his Marquette debut during the 2011–12 NCAA season. Due to an NCAA ban, he missed Marquette’s first three regular-season games. On November 20, 2011, he made his collegiate debut against Mississippi. Toscano-Anderson scored his first collegiate field goal in the final seven minutes of a win over Wisconsin while also contributing five rebounds and an assist. Toscano-shoulder Anderson’s injury prevented him from playing against Green Bay on December 10. On January 11, 2012, Toscano-Anderson picked up his first collegiate steal and scored two points against St. John’s. On February 24, Toscano-Anderson played just 11 minutes against West Virginia and already had three defensive rebounds.
On November 11, 2012, Toscano-Anderson participated for 21 minutes against Colgate and had career-highs of nine points and nine rebounds. On November 19 in the 2012 Maui Invitational Tournament against Butler, he made his first collegiate start and contributed five points and six rebounds in a then-career-high 22 minutes. Against Green Bay on December 19, 2012, Toscano-Anderson had a career-high two blocks and added three rebounds. On December 29, Toscano-Anderson outscored North Carolina Central by nine points, setting a season high with three field goals and three free throws, both of which were career highs. On January 26, 2013, Toscano-Anderson scored nine points and recorded a game-high three steals against Providence while shooting 75% from the field, including a career-high two 3-pointers. On February 9, Toscano-Anderson collected four rebounds and one block while competing against DePaul. In the second round of the NCAA tournament in 2013, Toscano-Anderson started the game against Davidson. He played for 16 minutes and pulled down two rebounds as Marquette defeated Davidson 59-58 on March 23. At the team’s playoff banquet, Toscano-Anderson subsequently won the Darius Johnson-Odom “Sacrifice For The String” Award.
On November 14, 2014, Toscano-Anderson defeated UT Martin while also leading the team with 16 points, seven rebounds, and a game-high four steals. On November 22, against Omaha, he recorded a career-high 23 points on 11 of 15 field goal attempts, leading the team in rebounds (eight), blocks (two), and steals (three), as well as four assists. Toscano-Anderson had a career-high 20 points against NJIT on November 24, including a career-high 8-of-13 free throws, while also matching a career-high 9 rebounds. On November 27, when Georgia Tech was the opponent at the Orlando Classic, Toscano-Anderson led his team to victory with 12 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 steals. On December 16, in a victory over Arizona State, he achieved a career-high with 7 assists. On December 22, against North Dakota, he hit a career-high with 13 rebounds. On January 31, 2015, Toscano-Anderson played 38 minutes against Butler and finished with 12 points and seven rebounds, four of which were offensive. Toscano-Anderson missed his first game of the season on February 21 against Villanova but came back to play a limited role in the following three contests, culminating in a return to the starting lineup on March 7 in support of the Golden Eagles’ victory over DePaul.
On March 11, Toscano-Anderson helped Marquette defeat Seton Hall, 78-56, by making three of three field goals, getting five rebounds, and passing for two assists. The game was part of the Big East tournament. In the end, Toscano-Anderson finished the 2014–15 NCAA season as the team’s top rebounder (5.7 per game), second in blocks (with 12), and third in thefts (with 35). He finished the season second on the team in total field goal percentage (49%) but had the most 3-point attempts of any Marquette player. In Turin, Italy, during the 2016 FIBA World Olympic qualifying tournament, Toscano-Anderson played basketball for Mexico. Because Juan Toscano was the name on his Mexican passport and jersey, he played for Mexico’s national team under that identity.
