Famous American actress and producer, Ellen Rona Barkin was born on April 16th 1954 in The Bronx, New York in the United States of America. She was born to Chemical Salesman, Sol Barkin and Evelyn Rozin Barkin, a hospital administrator at Jamaica Hospital. She shares the same parents with her brother George Barkin.

Early Life & Career

Ellen Barkin was born into a Jewish family who emigrated from Siberia and the Russian-Polish border. Barkin attended Parsons Junior High School while residing in Flushing, New York. The High School of Performing Arts in Manhattan is where she earned her high school graduation. She later majored in both acting and history at Hunter College. She had considered becoming an ancient history teacher. At the Actors Studio in New York City, she continued her acting training. Before getting her first audition, she reportedly spent ten years studying acting.

In 2005, Barkin founded a movie production firm with her brother George, her ex-husband Ronald Perelman, a rich financier, and their respective partners. The Normal Heart, in which Barkin made her Broadway debut as Dr. Brookner, earned her the 2011 Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Play. She played Dani Kirschenbloom in the Showtime comedy-drama Happyish in 2015.
