Some of his siblings have shared their thoughts on their brother’s decision to run for the White House as an independent candidate.
“The decision of our brother Bobby to run as a third party candidate against Joe Biden is dangerous to our country,” said sisters Rory Kennedy, Kerry Kennedy, and Kathleen Kennedy Townsend and brother Joseph P Kennedy II in a statement posted on X, formerly known as Twitter.
“Bobby might share the same name as our father, but he does not share the same values, vision, or judgment. Today’s announcement is deeply saddening for us. We denounce his candidacy and believe it to be perilous for our country.”
In October 2023, Kennedy hit major headlines after he announced on Monday, October 9 that he would run for the US president as an independent candidate.
Kennedy’s announcement comes after several weeks of speculation about his future in the 2024 field. His independent candidacy for president officially ends his effort to defeat President Joe Biden in the Democratic primary.
“I’m here to declare myself an independent candidate for president of the United States,” the anti-vaccination activist said in remarks in Philadelphia urging voters to reject both “corrupt” political parties.
Before his independent candidacy announcement, Kennedy was running for the Democratic Party nomination in the election until Monday, October 9, 2023, when he announced he was running as an independent.
As a promoter of anti-vaccine misinformation and public health-related conspiracy theories, Kennedy is the founder and chairman of Children’s Health Defense, an anti-vaccine advocacy group.
