Archie Madekwe is a British actor named the 2017 Screen International Star of Tomorrow and is best known for his roles in the Apple TV+ series See (2019–2022) and the A24 horror film Midsommar (2019).
Archie Madekwe was born in South London and his parents divorced when he was young. At the age of 14, he began studying theater at the BRIT School and later joined the National Youth Theatre. He went on to study at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA) and left early when he was cast in The Goat, or Who is Sylvia? by Ian Rickson of Edward Albee in the West End against Damian Lewis and Sophie Okonedo.
Archie Madekwe began his television career in 2014 with an appearance in an episode of the BBC medical series Casualty. He then played Luca in two episodes of the Channel 4 comedy series Fresh Meat in 2016.
In 2017, Archie Madekwe made his West End debut in The Goat, or Who is Sylvia? at Theater Royal Haymarket with Damian Lewis and Sophie Okonedo. He landed his first movie role as Luke in Teen Spirit after the casting director saw him in the play. That same year, he also appeared in the Channel 4 sitcom Hang Ups.
In 2019, Archie Madekwe began playing Kofun in the Apple TV + See sci-fi series, played Courfeyrac in the BBC One adaptation of Les Misérables, and played Simon in the ‘Ari Aster folk horror series A24 Midsommar. In 2021, he appeared in the film Journey with Colin Farrell and Lily-Rose Depp and voiced Sedgwick in the Emmy-winning “Ice” part of the Netflix animated series Love, Death & Robots.
Archie Madekwe also played a major role in Neill Blomkamp’s sports drama based on a true story, Gran Turismo. He also has upcoming roles in Netflix’s Heart of Stone and Emerald Fennell’s Saltburn.
