Brittney Griner Siblings – Brittney Griner is an American professional basketball player for the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) Phoenix Mercury who is currently imprisoned in Russia.

She was a Baylor Lady Bears basketball player in Waco, Texas, and she is the only NCAA basketball player to score 2,000 points and block 500 shots.

Brittney Griner Early Life

Griner was born in Houston, and she is the daughter of Raymond Griner and Sandra Griner.

Her father, Raymond, is a former Harris County sheriff who served in the Vietnam War in 1968 and 1969.

Griner went to Nimitz High School in Houston and was a basketball player all through high school. During her university days as a freshman, she openly participated in volleyball activities.

Griner started her sophomore year by working with the boys’ basketball team and a Nimitz football coach to strengthen her legs in preparation for learning to dunk.

A YouTube video of her dunks was viewed over 6.6 million times during her junior season, prompting a meeting with Shaquille O’Neal.

Griner led the Nimitz Cougars to the Texas 5A girls basketball state championship game, where Mansfield Summit High School defeated them 52-43.

As a senior, Griner dunked 52 times in 32 games, including seven against Aldine High School.

Brittney has three siblings. Two of the siblings are females and the other one is male. The names of her female siblings are Shkera Griner and Pier Griner.

Her brother’s name is Decarlo Griner. As we speak, much information is not known about them as they have succeeded in keeping a low-key life although their sister is one of the top stars in the United States of America.

Brittney Griner Personal Life

In the interview, she also revealed that she was bullied as a child and that she is very passionate about working with children to bring attention to the issue of bullying, particularly against LGBT people.

Griner had previously begun to her parents in high school, which her father didn’t accept gracefully, forcing her to spend her senior year living with an assistant coach.

In My Skin: My Life On and Off the court, a memoir she co-wrote with Sue Hovey about bullying and self-acceptance, was published in 2014.

Brittney Griner’s love life

Griner got engaged to her fellow WNBA player, Glory Johnson in 2014, however, they were both arrested on charges of assault and disorderly behavior on April 22, 2015, after police skilled a fight between the two in their Phoenix, Arizona, suburban home. Both had suffered minor injuries.

Despite this incident, they married the subsequent month in Phoenix on May 8, 2015. Griner and the love of her life, Johnson were suspended for seven games by the WNBA in 2015 after pleading guilty to disorderly conduct charges. Griner was also required to attend domestic violence counseling for 26 weeks.

Griner and Johnson announced on June 4, 2015, that Johnson was pregnant with twins conceived through in vitro fertilization using Johnson’s eggs.

Griner filed for an annulment the next day, after less than a month of marriage, citing fraud and duress; the annulment was denied.

Johnson gave birth to twin girls 16 weeks early on October 12, 2015.

Griner was ordered to pay Johnson child support. The divorce of the couple was finalized in June 2016.

After she got separated from Johnson, she went ahead to propose to Cherelle Watson in August 2018, and the couple married in June 2019. Watson’s name was later changed to Cherelle Griner.
