Magic The Gathering Fallout Commander Deck precons look great, but I’m picking Dogmeat anyway

I love playing Commander in Magic The Gathering. Since the turn of this year, I’ve attended a Commander night with friends every few weeks, and between games, I find myself constantly devouring Commander content to learn new strategies and upgrade my army of precons.

With that in mind, a set like Universes Beyond: Fallout is a big deal because it’s pretty much all about Commander. No Arena, no full set, just four decks my buddies and I can pick up and play. The last set like this, sadly, flew right over my head (I’m not into Doctor Who) but I am down to wander the wasteland in Fallout and if you’re here, there’s a good chance you are, too.

Here’s everything we know about the Magic The Gathering Fallout precon decks, and I’ll add a decklist as I get it.

Scrappy Survivors

Look, I’ll be honest, it’s going to be tricky to not pick Scrappy Survivors with its adorable Commander, Dogmeat.

Scrappy Survivors is a Red, Green, and White deck with a ‘go tall’ strategy of building up your cards in a manner befitting the levelling process of the RPG it’s based on.

Cards include Commander Sofia Daguerre, Idolized, Three Dog, and a reprint of Puresteel Paladin. Check them out below:

Science!

The Science deck is helmed by Dr. Madison Li as its Commander, and she makes use of the Energy mechanic to power-up cards, draw more cards, or bring creatures back from the dead.

Despite that last one, she’s not a Black card, and instead helms a Blue, Red, and White deck that’s full of robots, as well as Nick Valentine, Private Eye, the Vault 112 Saga from Fallout 3, and T-45 Power Armor which can be equipped. Check out some of the cards below:

Mutant Menace

As the name Mutant Menace may suggest, there are a lot of mutants in this deck. It leans on the Radiation mechanic, which requires players to mill cards and take damage depending on how many Rad counters they have.

Its Commander, The Wise Mothman, happily dishes out those counters with every attack, and it’s a 3/3 with flying to boot.

This Black, Green and Blue deck includes Hancock, Ghoulish Mayor, Nuclear Fallout, and a reprint of Guardian Project with some art inspired by Fallout 1. Check them out below:

Hail Caesar

Possibly the most ruthless deck here, Hail Caesar is all about sacrificing your cards for profit. It’s a Red, White, and Black deck helmed by Caesar, Legion’s Emperor, and is full of militant factions from Fallout.

It includes Powder Ganger, Legate Lanius, Caesar’s Ace, and a reprint of Ruinous Ultimatum. In terms of mechanics, Squad returns from the Warhammer 40K decks, while Legate Lanius could become a handful that might make him a better choice as your Commander.

He gets more powerful as creatures are sacrificed, and when he enters the battlefield players need to sacrifice a tenth of creatures they control. That could make him very powerful, very quickly.

Commander Classics

Something I really enjoy about the Universes Beyond Commander decks is the way they reprint some Commander staples with fresh new artwork to put them in their new context.

Sol Ring, as you can see above, gets the Pip-Boy treatment, but alternative artwork has it as a bottlecap, too.

Arcane Signet is the wedding ring from Fallout 4, which is quite touching in its own way, while War Room is pretty adorable, too.
