Nicole DeBoer is the wife of Kalen DeBoer. She was born and raised in Sioux Falls by her parents, Terry and Lori Tendler, who were committed to giving her the best education. She grew up as a sports lover and played basketball right from her days in high school.

She earned a degree in fitness management from Augustana College. She was an athlete at college, participating in 109 games for the basketball team.

After graduating from the University of Sioux Falls, DeBoer remained in the city of Sioux Falls, South Dakota as an assistant coach at Washington High School.

Following his two years at Washington, DeBoer got back in touch with Bob Young and went back to his old school to take over as offensive coordinator, a role he maintained from 2000 to 2004.

On December 1, 2004, Sioux Falls promoted DeBoer to head coach following Young’s retirement. Under his leadership, the team achieved three NAIA national titles (2006, 2008, and 2009) and finished second in 2007. DeBoer was the head coach from 2005 to 2009.

Mike Van Diest’s national title-winning Carroll Fighting Saints teams defeated DeBoer twice at Sioux Falls in 2005 and 2007.

Under Dale Lennon, DeBoer oversaw offensive operations at Southern Illinois from 2010 to 2013. Under Chris Creighton, he held the same role at Eastern Michigan University from 2014 to 2016, Jeff Tedford at Fresno State from 2017 to 2018, and Tom Allen at Indiana most recently in 2019.

Under DeBoer, the Hoosiers finished the season ranked third in the Big Ten with an average of 433.2 yards per game. DeBoer was brought on as California State University, Fresno’s head football coach in 2020.

With the season cut short due to the COVID-19 epidemic, he guided the Bulldogs to a 3-3 record. He guided Fresno State to a 9-3 regular season record in 2021. The season was crowned with victories against San Diego State and UCLA in the rankings.

The Bulldogs defeated UTEP 31–24 to earn a spot in the New Mexico Bowl. DeBoer was appointed head football coach at the University of Washington on November 29, 2021.

In his debut season with Washington, DeBoer led the squad to a 10–2 regular season record. Victories over ranked teams Michigan State, Oregon State, and Oregon were the season’s high points.

For the 2022 campaign, DeBoer received the Pac-12 Coach of the Year award. The Huskies finished 11-2 on the season after defeating Texas 27–20 in the Alamo Bowl.

Washington concluded the regular season with a 12-0 record in his second season. After that, Washington won the Pac-12 Championship by defeating Oregon 34–31.

DeBoer was selected Pac-12 Coach of the Year for the second consecutive season. In addition, DeBoer was selected Walter Camp Coach of the Year and Sporting News College Football Coach of the Year.

As the #2 seed, DeBoer and the Huskies earned a spot in the 2023 College Football Playoffs. In the Sugar Bowl, DeBoer assisted in leading Washington to a 37–31 victory over Texas.

DeBoer lost to Michigan 34-13 in the CFP National Championship, which was his sole defeat of the season. The Huskies had a 14-1 season finale. DeBoer accepted an invitation to take over as the University of Alabama’s next head coach on January 12, 2024.
