American actor, John Amos was born on December 27th, 1939 in Newark, New Jersey in the United States of America.
He was born to Annabelle and John Allen Amos Sr. who was an auto mechanic. He grew up in E ast Orange, New Jersey, and graduated from East Orange High School in 1958.
His performance as James Evans Sr. on the CBS television drama Good Times made him well-known. Amos has also appeared on The Mary Tyler Moore Show, The West Wing, in reoccurring roles as Admiral Percy Fitzwallace, and in the television series The District as Mayor Ethan Baker of Washington, D.C.
Throughout his five-decade career, Amos has performed on Broadway and in a variety of movies. Both the NAACP Image Award and the Primetime Emmy Award have nominated him.
In movies like The Beastmaster (1982), Coming to America (1988), Die Hard 2 (1990), and Coming 2 America, he has a lot of supporting parts (2021).
