Who are Jason Benetti’s parents?
Jason Benetti was born to Sue Benetti and Rob Benetti. We have no details about his siblings. His mother had him ten weeks prematurely at the University of Chicago Hospital, where he remained for the first three months of his life.
Benetti may have developed cerebral palsy, which was identified in his toddler years, as a result of a respiratory disease he contracted while in intensive care that depleted his blood of oxygen. To increase his walking, he had two surgeries and years of physical treatment.

Benetti worked as the Time Warner Cable Sports Channel’s voice of high school sports, Syracuse Chiefs baseball games, and High Point Panthers basketball games while he was in law school.
In addition, he had positions with the Big East Conference, Fox Sports 1, Westwood One, IMG College, Salem Avalanche, and DePaul University.
Benetti was an intern at WSCR, a sports radio station in Chicago. Despite his early inclination for radio-only broadcasting, Benetti entered ESPN in 2011 and began his broadcasting career in television.
After calling a few college basketball games for the ESPN3 streaming service, Benetti would call ESPN2 and ESPNU. Benetti called his first football game for the American Athletic Conference package that ESPN syndicated in 2013.
Due to the 2020 Major League Baseball season being postponed due to COVID-19, Benetti signed a multi-year deal with ESPN in 2020 and called KBO League games remotely for the network during that year.
Benetti took over as the play-by-play announcer for some Chicago White Sox home and away games on television starting with the 2016 season, replacing the recently retiring Hall of Fame broadcaster Ken Harrelson. Benetti would be paired with Steve Stone in this role.
The White Sox declared in May 2017 that Benetti would assume full-time play-by-play duties in 2019 following Harrelson’s retirement. Benetti was announced as the Detroit Tigers’ next play-by-play announcer on television in November 2023.
Benetti was chosen in 2021 to provide play-by-play commentary for NBC’s baseball coverage at the Summer Olympics in 2020.
According to reports on April 26, 2022, Benetti would lead play-by-play for Peacock for the new MLB Sunday Leadoff games produced by NBC Sports. He will be accompanied by rotating commentators who will represent the teams in each game.
Benetti relocated to Fox Sports in August 2022, where he will do play-by-play for the network’s coverage of Major League Baseball, college football, and basketball. He kept on calling games for NBC Sports Chicago even after the relocation.
Benetti would work his first NFL games on Fox in weeks 17 and 18 of 2022, providing play-by-play for the Arizona Cardinals against the Atlanta Falcons to open the season, and then filling in for Brandon Gaudin, who replaced Wayne Larrivee on the Green Bay Packers radio network, in week 18 when the Panthers played the New Orleans Saints.

Benetti works at the Burton Blatt Institute at Syracuse University, where he oversees the CHAT (“Communication Hope through Assistive Technology”) Camp.
He was an adjunct professor of sports broadcasting at Syracuse’s Newhouse School. He participates in the “Just Say Hi” campaign run by the Cerebral Palsy Foundation.
