BACKGROUND :

The world is at a crossroads of another T20 World Cup within a year. The last T20 World Cup started on October 17, 2021, and lasted until November 14th,2021. The Aussies won the last World Cup. This year the World Cup will start on 16th October and will continue till 13th November in Australia.

After a disappointing performance last year team India will want to turn the tide in their favour this year. The captaincy of the Indian Team changed after the disaster at the World Cup last year. India was humiliated and knocked out from the group stage. The captain’s armband moved from Virat Kohli to Rohit Sharma. Coaching responsibilities shifted from Ravi Shastri to Rahul Dravid. Rohit Sharma’s record as a captain has been excellent so far. He has won 5 IPL titles as a captain. This is the first time Rohit Sharma has got a chance to lead the team on the biggest platform, the World Cup. He will definitely want to take full advantage of this opportunity. The countrymen are eagerly waiting to see Rohit Sharma lifting the World Cup. India is waiting for a Dravid-Rohit charisma.

In the last World Cup, there was a lot of controversy about team formation. Fans and experts criticized several selections. However, it is still almost 5 months remaining for the World Cup to start and the Indian team will play several more series in between. Standing at this point, it is difficult to choose the best possible lineup. The World Cup is still a long way to go. As time passes the enthusiasm regarding the World Cup also increases. OPENING SLOTS :

Captain Rohit Sharma is obviously an automatic choice in the playing XI. He will be partnered with KL Rahul who has been by far the best Indian T20 batsman of late. Rahul has been the only man in form among the Indian top 3. Shikhar Dhawan is expected to be the backup opening option in the squad.

Number 3-5 :

Virat Kohli is indeed an automatic choice. Even if he is out of form he will surely be included in the squad. The whole nation wants him to get back to his prime form as soon as possible. Considering the present scenario, Suryakumar Yadav might be India’s number 4. He is having a decent IPL. He started well but slightly lost his momentum at the midway. But surely he is in management’s action plan. And also management can bring back Ishan Kishan in the middle order if Suryakumar’s form is not up to the mark. Shreyas Iyer is also on the competitor’s list, though he had a poor IPL 2022. There are a few more other players, whose performance will be closely monitored during this span. These include Deepak Hooda and Sanju Samson

WICKET KEEPERS :

Rishabh Pant should be the favorite one to start. Now it’s up to team management and the captain’s call whether they will go for a second specialist keeper or will consider KL Rahul as an alternative.If they go for a specialist keeper, there will be a tough competition between Dinesh Karthik and Sanju Samson. As per current form, Dinesh Karthik definitely has an edge.

ALL ROUNDERS :

Hardik Pandya will make an entry into the team. Ravindra Jadeja is an automatic choice. In team management’s action plan there might be Shardul Thakur and Deepak Chahar as well. A decision on Axar Patel or Venkatesh Iyer would be a tough call.

SPIN OPTIONS :

Based on the present form Yuzvendra Chahal seems to be a definite choice. He is in Purple Cap’s race in this year’s IPL. Last year Team India tried to give a surprise by including Varun Chakravarthy in the squad. But that experiment didn’t come up be fruitful. As the tournament will be hosted in Australia, spinners might have limited roles to play. Considering Jadeja as an option, management might go with Chahal and Ashwin as specialist spinners. The scope of Rahul Chahar and Varun Chakravarthy seems unlikely at present. Kuldeep Yadav could be a surprise.

PACE OPTIONS :

Jasprit Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar Kumar will definitely be in the squad. The tough competition will arise between T. Natarajan, Harshal Patel, Umesh Yadav, Arshdeep Singh and Umran Malik. Umesh is having a fantastic IPL so far. Natarajan has been expensive but has 18 Wickets to his tally. Arshdeep Singh and Umran Malik have been the finds of the season.
