How does the Google Assistant know when your bill is due
You must be wondering how Google gets all the information related to your flight, package and invoice. Do not worry. Your details are not compromised.
Google scans your email. Only emails in your Gmail account, not other email accounts. So, if the Google account signed in to your phone has emails from credit card issuers, travel agents, etc., Google will extract the relevant information from them and show you. That’s how Google gets information about your upcoming bills.
How to turn off Google Assistant bill notifications
For that, follow these steps:
Step 1: Launch the Google app on your phone.
Step 2: Tap the More tab at the bottom and select Settings on the next screen.
Step 3: Tap Notifications. On the next screen, turn off the conversion for Invoices.
Doing so will prevent Google from prompting you for upcoming bills. However, it won’t stop Google from scanning your bill. You’ll still be able to see your bills in the Google Assistant and Google apps updates, as shown below.
In case you want to prevent Google from completely tracking your data, you will have to disable web and app activity. For that, follow these steps:
Step 1: Open the Google app and tap More at the bottom.
Step 2: Tap on Your Data in Search.
Step 3: Scroll down and tap Web & App Activity in the Google-wide controls.
Step 4: Turn off Web & App Activity.
Where else can you see your bill
Besides reminding you of your bill payment due date, you can check your daily personalized updates from Google in two places — the Assistant and the Google app.
Check bill via Google Assistant
Launch Google Assistant on your phone. Then tap the icon that looks like a flashlight. Currently, it is present in the bottom left corner, but Google is constantly changing its position.
You will be taken to the update screen. Scroll down to see bills, upcoming events, and more.
You can even ask the Google Assistant to show you your upcoming bills. Use the ‘Show me my bills’ or ‘Any upcoming bills’ command.
Check bill via Google app
Launch the Google app on your phone. Tap the Updates tab at the bottom.
How to remove invoices from Google Assistant
See the invoice in the update section, as shown above. Then, if you’ve already paid the bill, tap the three-dot icon above the bill and select Skip this bill.
Can you pay through the Google app
Yes and no. Although you have the option to Pay Under Bill, you will be taken to the service provider’s website. You cannot pay directly on the Google app.
Who can see the invoice
You’ll see an invoice reminder on your phone connected to your Google account. No other phone or account can access your bill.
Extra Tip 1: View upcoming bills on desktop
Similar to mobile phones, you can also view your upcoming bills on the web. For that, enter the query ‘Show my bills’ in Google search. You need to sign in to your Google account to make it work. The same goes for work here. Google scans emails in your connected Google account to show bills that are due.
Extra tip 2: Ask your assistant to remind you of bills
While the Google Assistant will automatically remind you when your bill is due, you can create a manual reminder for an invoice. For example, if you want to be reminded on a specific date or at a specific location, such as when you are near the point of paying bills for service providers.
To do that, launch the Google Assistant and create a reminder with the ‘Remind me’ command. Then say the time or location of the place along with the reminder name. For example, remind me to pay my electricity bill at South Extension.
Take control
I love the bill reminders displayed by the Google Assistant. It has proved helpful many times in helping me pay my bills ahead of time. But, of course, everyone is different. Google should provide dedicated buttons to disable information you don’t want it to track. Hopefully we can one day see such a button in the Google app.
