Google’s YouTube Music music streaming service is set to compete with Spotify. Although YouTube Music is a standalone application, it is part of YouTube Premium. So with YouTube Premium, you get unlimited free video and audio streaming. It’s an ad-free YouTube experience for an additional $2/month.
That makes a lot of sense but what about Play Store Music? It will be shutting down soon, which means it might be a good time to move your playlists from Google Play Music to YouTube Music.
Exporting playlists from Google Play Music is a bit complicated when compared to other music streaming apps, and only two of the several music converters I tested worked.
Let’s get started.
1. Sound
Soundiiz is a web application that works with many music streaming services including Google Play Music and YouTube Music. To get started, visit the website using the link below and click the Get Started Now button.
Sign in or create a new account with one of your social media accounts. There is no need to verify your account this way. That will save you valuable time.
Find the Transfer option in the left sidebar and select it.
In the free version of Soundiiz you can only switch playlists so choose that one.
Soundiiz will now ask you to choose a source, a service that plays music from where you want to transfer the playlist. Select Google Play Music here.
Now Google will ask you to Get An Access Code. For those who don’t know what this is, Google wants to protect your account and this acts as a second verification system. Just click on the big blue link.
You will need to re-enter your Google login details, then an access token will be automatically generated for you. Just copy and paste it there before clicking the Connect button.
You can now select any or all playlists you’ve saved in Google Play Music. There are no limits even in the free account. When done, click Confirm and continue.
Soundiiz offers some additional options that are missing from other music converters. In step 4, you can choose a new title and description for the playlist and decide if you want the playlist to be private or public. You can also remove duplicate songs from the list here. Click Save configuration when finished.
If you want, you can remove the song from the playlist at this step. You know, some house cleaning? Click Confirm Watchlist when done.
Select your destination as YouTube Music where you want to transfer the selected playlists. Sign in with your Google account and allow Soundiiz to access your YouTube account here.
In my case the transfer took less than a minute, but I only transferred one playlist. It may take longer depending on the number of playlists and the songs in each playlist.
While transferring playlists between most music streaming apps is free, Google Play Music is not. You’ll need a premium account because Google has made this really hard and there aren’t many apps that can figure that out. It will cost you $3/month but offers extra features like syncing playlists between music streaming apps, transferring playlists with up to 200 songs, and transferring music data other.
2. Stamps
Stamp is the only other app that has figured out how to move playlists and other music-related data to and from Google Play Music. It is available on both desktop and mobile devices. For this tutorial, I will be using the Android app. Launch the app and select Google Play Music as your source. Sign in with your Google account here.
Now Google will ask you for the App Password. No worries. We have you!
Go to your Google My Account page and under the Security tab look for the App Passwords option.
For security reasons, you will be asked to sign in again. You can now choose a ‘Custom Name’ for the app and create an app password easily.
This newly generated password is now your Google account password. Go back to Stamp and sign in to your Google account with this app password instead of your regular Google account password. Now choose YouTube as your destination. Do not worry. Playlists will still appear in your YouTube Music app because both are deeply integrated.
You know drill now. Select the playlist you want to transfer. Click Start when done.
Note that the free version of Stamp will only allow you to transfer ten songs from a playlist. The pro version of Stamp will cost you $9.99 for all platforms and $14.99 for all platforms.
Play that list
I would suggest you hop on the train as soon as possible. While Google will give notice to allow enough time to migrate, due to the limited nature of Google play Music and how Google handles data, the solutions mentioned above may not work in the future. future. Suffice it to say, is all!
