Thee CS:GO and CS2 knife commands are useful if you want to try out some of the game’s exclusive knives in custom games, as the only alternative is spending a lot of money on them or getting lucky with a loot box.
The CS:GO and CS2 player-driven economy leads to some items becoming extremely expensive, with knives standing out as the most pricey items available. Luckily, there is a way to test them out for free in the game so that you can see how they look before potentially dropping hundreds or thousands on one.
So, take a look below to see how knife commands work in CS:GO and CS2 and how you can use them for free temporarily.

In order to test knives in CS:GO and CS2 you will first need to ensure that the developer console is enabled. To do so:
- Head to the ‘Game’ section of the Settings menu
- Scroll down
- Check that the ‘Enable Developer Console (~)’ setting is set to ‘Yes’
Once you’ve done that, go to the ‘Play’ section of CS2 and select ‘Play with Bots’ from the drop-down menu. Make sure that you have set the bot number to zero, and then load into the map of your choice.
Once you’re loaded into the map, open up the developer console using the ~ (tilde) key in the top left of your keyboard and type in sv_cheats 1. This will allow you to manipulate the game settings so that you can extend the round timer and load in the knives.
Once you’ve done that, input the following command into the CS2 developer console:
- mp_roundtime_defuse 60;mp_roundtime_hostage 60;mp_roundtime 60;mp_restartgame 1
This will restart the round and set a 60-minute timer, giving you more than long enough to play around with and test your new blades.
The final console command that you will want to input is mp_drop_knife_enable 1, which will allow you to drop your knife. This is essential, as otherwise, you will have no space to load any of the new knives into.
You must also make sure that you have the default knife equipped when loading into the match, as this will not work if you have any purchased knives set to your loadout.
Furthermore, this can only be done in a custom game and not in an actual online match, so you will have to actually purchase the knives in CS:GO or CS2 if you wish to show them off to your friends.
It’s also worth mentioning that some custom servers like surf or bhop have custom plug-ins that let players use commands to get knives and skins for free, though they only work on those specific servers.

However, it is still a great way to get a feel for the knife in-game, in addition to seeing all of the animations. After all, you are dropping a fair amount on it, so you’d better be sure you like it.
