Yesterday, we learned how to run desktop applications from the browser without installing them on the computer using Spoon. Today, we will use it to run different versions of Internet Explorer on the same PC.
I haven’t tested the latest version of Internet Explorer from Microsoft (IE 9 Beta), so I decided to use Spoon to give it a try. That way I don’t have to uninstall IE 8.
So, assuming you’ve followed the steps to install the Spoon plugin mentioned in our previous article, we’ll go straight to Spoon’s App Gallery.
1. Click “Browse” in the App Gallery.
2. In the Spoon Browser Sandbox you will find large thumbnails of the different versions of Internet Explorer. Click the one that says Internet Explorer 9 Beta.
3. It directs us to the app’s familiar Get Started page. Click Get Started Now.
4. Again, like you saw yesterday, it will start caching indicating the application is starting.
5. And, after a long wait and all, I got IE 9 Beta up and running. As you can see in the screenshot below, I am running IE 9 Beta and IE 8 simultaneously without any inconvenience.
In case you have trouble starting IE 9 Beta and it doesn’t open at first time, you can type Spoon in your start search bar and click on Sandbox manager. It will start after you do that.
Likewise, you can also run different versions of Chrome and Firefox using Spoon.
So have you had a chance to try this tool? If yes, what applications did you run using it? How was your experience? Tell us in the comments.
