Twitter has a retweet button, Pinterest has a Pin, Facebook has a Share. Almost every social network makes it easy to share other people’s posts with your followers. I mean, isn’t that the point of social media? Of course, the cool kid in town – Instagram, disagrees. It won’t let you log into more than 1 account, won’t give you access to social networking tools, and won’t even let you share other people’s posts.
But where there are millions of users, there is a way. And this happens the way of an unofficial hack – reprogramming. This is not a native feature but is an understandable term in the Instagram community.
Proper programming etiquette
When you program, you are posting other people’s content on your profile. Of course, it’s not stealing as long as you credit the post to the original poster and make sure their profile is public and not private.
You can credit the OP (Original Poster) by watermarking their treatment directly on the image or mentioning it in the caption, along with the original text. And the apps we’re going to cover today will help you do all that without having to touch a finger.
Repost for Instagram (iPhone and Android)
Repost is a reprogramming app for both iPhone and Android. The app is free to start, and you use it in conjunction with the Instagram app.
Open the app and get started with logging into Instagram. You’ll see your feed here. Tap and select a photo. You will see a big repost button.
This will bring up the edit view. With the Instagram handle for the original image embedded in the photo. Below you will have options to position the watermark or switch to a dark theme.
You can choose to remove the watermark entirely by upgrading to the premium version of the app for $5.
Once you’ve done that, the iOS app will bring up a share sheet from which you’ll have to choose Open in Instagram select. In Android, the Instagram app opens automatically.
From here, you know how to drill, edit the image if you want, and go to the subtitle screen. In the text field, you’ll see the original caption embedded with a nod to the original poster.

Regrann for Android
Regrann is specifically for Android because it uses Android’s customization capabilities to its advantage. With Regrann, you don’t need to log in with your account or pay to upgrade.
Here’s how it works, just install the app and make sure it’s running. Now go to your Instagram app, tap the three-dot menu button from any photo and select Copy Share URL. This will automatically bring up the Regrann menu with options to save the image, share it to Facebook, Twitter and a large Instagram button. It’s the one you need to tap.
The image will now show up in the Instagram editor again. In the caption, the app will embed the original poster’s name and mention that this is a repost.
Unlike Repost, you cannot add an Instagram handle as a watermark on an image.
When you open the Regrann app, you’ll find an option to speed up this whole process. Once enabled, tap Copy Share URL will take you directly to the Instagram edit page instead of the Regrann selection screen.
