Pacific Drive is a survival game, which means resources out the wazoo, one of which is Dumpster Pearls, and you may have been collecting them without an idea of what to do with them.
Dumpster Pearls are an excellent source of the game’s many resources – if you have the means to crack them open, that is. So, here’s everything you need to know to get your hands on the resources inside.
How to open a Dumpster Pearl
Opening a Dumpster Pearl requires you to have the Matter Deconstructor unlocked in your Fabrication Station.
You’re likely to already have this if you have been upgrading your station as it’s the first upgrade after the Scanning Antenna, requiring 35 Scrap Metal, 4 Gears, and 4 Electronics to construct, as well as 0.8kLIM of stable energy to run.

The Matter Deconstructor allows you to put in items and deconstruct them to their base elements. It can be extremely useful for dealing with clutter, but also it is exactly what you need to get resources from a Dumpster Pearl.
Place your Pearl into the Matter Deconstructor, and watch as it turns into a massive pile of resources. Dumpster Pearls appear with shell icons in your inventory, so interact with the Deconstructor and drag the shell icons across to deconstruct them.
All kinds of resources can be found in a Dumpster Pearl too, so just a handful of them can fill you up with all the resources you need.
