LEGO Fortnite has finally received a fishing mini-game following the release of the v28.30 update. Although this gameplay feature is pretty similar to its battle royale counterpart, there are plenty of aspects that are new in LEGO Fortnite fishing.
To kick things off, you’ll need to craft a Fishing Rod, although there are four different versions you can make. Therefore, we’ve put together this simple guide to explain everything about how fishing works in the game.
How to make a Fishing Rod in LEGO Fortnite
Here are the recipes to create all four Fishing Rods in LEGO Fortnite:
- Common Fishing Rod: 1x Wooden Rod, 2x Cord, 1x Wolf Claw
- Uncommon Fishing Rod: 2x Knotroot Rod, 3x Cord, 1x Silk Thread, 3x Wolf Claw
- Rare Fishing Rod: 3x Flexwood Rod, 1x Drawstring, 2x Wool Thread, 3x Sand Claw
- Epic Fishing Rod: 3x Frostpine Rod, 2x Drawstring, 3x Heavy Wool Thread, 3x Arctic Claw
You’ll also need to upgrade your Crafting Bench if you want to craft a higher-rarity fishing rod. You’ll need Level 1 for Common, Level 2 for Uncommon, Level 3 for Rare, and Level 4 for Epic.

How to catch a fish
Once you’ve crafted a Fishing Rod, simply stand close to a river or any other body of water and cast your line. Wait for a fish to grab your bait and then press the right-click on your mouse to pull the fish out of the water.
You’re more likely to reel in your catch with a higher-rarity Fishing Rod, but the lower-rarity ones are easier to make, so there’s a bit of a trade-off. You can also use a Bait Bucket to get bait to attract fish to your location.

Similar to the game’s battle royale mode, you can catch a wide range of fish in LEGO Fortnite:
- Orange Flopper
- Blue Flopper
- Green Flopper
- Vendetta Flopper
- Black and Blue Shield Fish
- Purple Thermal Fish

- Silver Thermal Fish
- Blue Slurp Fish
- Purple Slurp Fish

- Blue Small Fry
- Cuddle Jelly Fish

The type of fish you can catch will be based on the Biome you’re currently in, the time of day, the weather, and the type of water you’re fishing in (eg. the ocean or a river).

Just like in the real world, you’ll also need bait to lure a fish in LEGO Fortnite. Thankfully, the game allows you to craft four different types of Bait Bucket. The rarer the bucket, the more likely you are to attract fish.
- Common Bait Bucket
- Unlock the recipe for the Common Bait Bucket by adding a Fish Filet to your inventory and having a Food Processor in the world
- Uncommon Bait Bucket
- Unlock the recipe for the Uncommon Bait Bucket by adding a Common Bait Bucket to your inventory and having a Juicer in the world

- Unlock the recipe for the Rare Bait Bucket by adding a Common Bait Bucket to your inventory and having a Juicer in the world

What are fish used for in LEGO Fortnite?

Fish is an excellent food source as it can restore your health and even protect you from harsh weather conditions in LEGO Fortnite. However, you will need a Food Processor Station to turn the fish into Fish Filets. You can unlock the Food Processor recipe by crafting or using a Lumber Mill.
This isn’t the only food you can make with fish – if you’ve got a Grill, you’ll also be able to make dishes like Smoked Fry Fish and Shieldfish Sushi which will come in handy when you’re low on health!
