So far we have covered quite a few apps that by using this you can control your Android device from your computer. There are a number of Windows-specific tools, and some that only run in your browser. We also cover an app called remote control TeamViewer using which can allow others on the web to get remote control on their Android device. However, the app isn’t compatible with all Android devices, or at least that’s what we’ve heard.
Koushik Dutta, one of the famous Android developers behind ClockworkMod, Cyanogen and so many other great apps, recently launched a chrome app that allows users to control Android devices remotely using a browser. Not only that, it also gives you the option to put your phone on the web privately so others can remotely control it and help you remotely if needed.
So let’s see how to configure Chrome to control Android. The only thing to keep in mind is that you will need a data cable to connect your phone. There is no way to wirelessly connect the devices, at least for now.
Necessary prerequisites
Users on Windows computers will have to install the ADB Drivers before proceeding. The download link is provided by the developer himself and this is a no-frills installation. Simply run the install, following the on-screen instructions to install the appropriate files.
Users on Mac and Linux can skip this step. Another thing you will have to take care of is making sure that the Android device has USB Debugging enabled. This option can be found in Developer Options in Windows. Enabling this option ensures that your computer can connect to your Android device via the debug bridge.
Install and launch apps on Chrome
Finally, install Vysor on Chrome from the Web Store. Connect your phone to the computer with a USB cable and launch the application. On the app, click Find Device and click on the device shown in the list. If the phone is connected and still doesn’t show up in the list, double check the ADB and USB Debugging installation options. The app loads the phone’s screen in a new browser window instantly.
When you see your phone screen on the browser, you can use your mouse and keyboard to control it. There is a slight lag even when devices are connected using a USB cable. This may be addressed in future releases. You may also see some automatic optimizations on the image to reduce bandwidth and increase speed. Latency was reduced when playing some games, even on full screen.
The best feature of the app is the ability to share control over the internet. click Share links option to create a unique link that can be shared with anyone you want to give control of your Android phone. Those who want control just need to install the app on Chrome. After the recipient clicks on the shared link, the screen will be shared immediately.
Note: You may sometimes get a page that says Chrome has stopped working. Just close the app and relaunch it.
That person will be able to control your screen and view it in real time. There are no advanced options through use that you can selectively control on the remote.
Remember… It’s still in beta
This app is still in Beta and may not work on all Android devices. There are cases where it can detect your phone, but not get the serial number and hence won’t launch. But looking at the developers behind the project, there is no denying the fact that bugs will be fixed soon and more features will be integrated.
