How to Get iPhone, Marshmallow Emojis on Any Android Phone

Nexus devices were updated to Android Marshmallow 6.0.1 in December 2015. The upgrade includes new features such as a double-tap of the power button to open the camera app, the option to set the camera app on third-party default camera apps, etc. However, along with the new features, there are also some other add-ons. One of them is the newly redesigned emoji. These new emojis have been adopted from the iPhone. Now let’s see how you can install it on your Android smartphone. Read the prerequisites below.

Warning: Before we begin, the most basic necessity for this guide is that your Android phone must be rooted. And the tests we do here are on Android 5.0 and up. So if you have a rooted Android smartphone with version 5.0 or higher and have a custom recovery installed (CWM or TWRP) then you can proceed. Follow the steps as mentioned. We will not be responsible if your phone brick or cause other problems. So be careful.

How to Install Android 6.0.1 Emojis on Your Android Using CWM Recovery

Download this ZIP file. This flashable ZIP file was provided by Shooting Star Max at XDA Forums. The method of flashing a zip file in CWM and TWRP is quite similar. Well, Shooting Star Max recommended TWRP. But, I did it here with CWM. And, it works perfectly fine.

Place the downloaded zip file in the root folder (phone memory) on your device. You can also keep it in your external storage. But, root directory is recommended. Now enter the recovery mode by turning off your device and pressing the necessary physical buttons on your device.

If you have a Lenovo device the button combination is Volume up + Volume down + Power button. After you see the Lenovo boot screen, let go of the power button and keep holding the other two buttons. If you have a Samsung device, the button combination is Volume Up + Power Button + Home button. After you see the boot screen, let go of the power button and keep holding the other two buttons.

You should now be in CWM recovery mode.

Select Install Zip

Next, choose Install zip. Press the power button to select and the volume button to navigate up and down the options. On the next screen, select Install zip from sdcard. If put the file in external storage then choose next option – Install zip from /storage/sdcard1.

Now, choose Correct to install the zip file. Once the zip file is installed, you will get the following screen.

Finish installing the zip file

Now, restart your device and check if the emoji is installed.

If you use the Google keyboard, hold the . key enter key and slide over smileys option. That will show the emoji installed on the device. Here is a screenshot of some of the emojis on my device.

What do you think of these emojis?

If you use WhatsApp or any chat app, they probably come pre-installed with these emojis. However, I’m curious to know if users really like these flat and thick emojis. I quite like them but I mostly prefer the glossy iPhone emojis available in WhatsApp. But what do you think? Do you like these Android Marshmallow emojis? Let us know in the comments section.
