How to Get Apple Music’s 50% Student Discount Now

Apple is a little late to the game, but its Apple Music streaming service just launched a student discount. If you’re currently a student in an eligible country, such as with Tidal and Spotify, you can now get a whopping 50% off your Apple Music subscription. This brings the price down to $4.99 per month, which is pretty unbelievable for unlimited music streaming.

If you don’t have an Apple Music account, just go to apple.com/music, click Tryand you will be taken to the appropriate registration page. However, I find the sign-up process if you already have an Apple Music account to be quite cumbersome. If you want to switch to a Student account, here are the steps you need to take. (You’ll have to verify that you’re a student at some point in the process, so have your school information ready.)

Note:

Switch to Apple Music Student Plan

The easiest way to sign up for Apple Music’s student plan is actually through iTunes on your Mac or PC rather than on iOS. I’ve had issues many times doing so from my iPhone, so make sure you’re on a computer.

Open iTunes on your computer and make sure you’re signed in with your Apple ID. (If not, click Log in in the top right.) Click your account name in the toolbar, then select account information from the menu.

It’s a bit vague now, but you’ll want to find register on the Accounts page. It’s below Setting towards the bottom. When you find it, click Manage turn right. optionally click Editor next to Apple Music if you have multiple iTunes subscriptions.

You will now have to verify your eligibility as a student through UNiDAYS, a separate online store for students that uses its own system to check if members are enrolled. university or not. Click Eligibility Verification in iTunes to access the UNiDAYS website.

On UNiDAYS, enter your personal email address and start entering the school you currently attend.

Proceed to enter your school email address. You will receive an email asking to confirm your student account with UNiDAYS by clicking the link. UNiDAYS requires some additional information such as your major and the number of years in your program. When you complete the form, you’ll see that you’ve been verified for the whole year — after that, you’ll have to go through the verification process again if you’re still a student.

Now go back to iTunes for your subscription from the account page. You will find that Student is now your selected plan at half the price of the standard price.

Resovle problem

If you haven’t used the student Apple Music plan yet, go back to UNiDAYS and double check that you’ve completed the verification process correctly. Hover Account at the top right of the page and click Student status.

You will see here a green banner that says “Verified Student” along with your institution and your verification expiration date. If you see anything other than this scrolling green banner, go through your steps again to make sure you’re properly registered and eligible.
