How to get an Infernal Compass in Diablo 4

An Infernal Compass is a key item in Season 5 of Diablo 4, as it lets take on the new Infernal Hordes and grab some powerful rewards.

If you need a primer on how to get your hands on these, along with some more information on how they work, we’ve got you covered.

How to get an Infernal Compass

There are five main ways to acquire an Infernal Compass in the game:

  • Nightmare Dungeons
  • Helltide Events
  • The Tree of Whispers
  • The Pit of Artificers
  • Crafting at the Occultist

I’ll elaborate a little more on each method below.

Nightmare Dungeons

Completing Nightmare Dungeons at World Tier 4 gives you a good chance of getting an Infernal Compass drop. This is the most consistent method for farming them as well, so if you’re no stranger to high level dungeons – go for it.

Helltide Events

If you have the chance to take part in a Helltide Event, the Tortured Gifts you receive have a chance of dropping an Infernal Compass.

Tree of Whispers

Completing the Tree of Whispers each season is a fantastic way of getting all manner of rewards, and some of the Reward Caches can also drop an Infernal Compass if you’re lucky.

Pit of Artificers

Completing the Pit of Artificers gives you a lower chance of getting an Infernal Compass, but with the recent Masterwork system, you’ll likely be running these for the materials anyway.

Crafting at the Occultist

If you manage to gather a bunch of Sigil Powder and Forgotten Souls, you can craft an Infernal Compass at the Occultist in any town.

There are better uses for those materials, especially with four other solid ways of acquiring the item, but it can come in handy if you have spare.

What are Infernal Compasses used for?

An Infernal Compass just acts like a key, letting you access an Infernal Horde. Just click it from your inventory to open a portal to a horde.

The compasses come with different tier levels that dictate the overall difficulty of a horde, and the amount of waves you’ll be dealing with. These are:

Upgrading the tier level of an Infernal Compass requires Abyssal Scrolls, which are earned in the chests at the end of hordes.
