Without the App Store, things would be pretty dull on your iPhone or iPad—in fact, there’s no way to download all the great apps available for iOS without it. And if the App Store suddenly disappears, it’s paramount that you get it back. But what caused it to go missing in the first place?
Mainly, it has to do with limitations. iOS 12 has a neat set of content management features that can control how and what you can do with the App Store. And there’s an app that completely hides the App Store from view. Chances are, you want to prevent others from installing the app before handing them over to your device and then forgetting all about it.
So let’s see how you can remove this restriction and regain access to the App Store as soon as possible. And if you’re a parent, you’ll also learn how to manage App Store-related restrictions remotely.
Unhide App Store
If you’re accessing from iOS 11, you won’t find the content restrictions in the usual location (under General Settings) anymore. Instead, tap Screen Time options on the Settings app, then tap Content & Privacy Restrictions to get access to them. If you already have a Restricted password, you’ll need to insert it to continue.

Step 1: On the Content and Privacy Restrictions screen, tap the option labeled iTunes & App Store Purchases.

The inclusion of iOS 12 content restrictions as part of Screen Time means you can now manage family members’ devices right from your iPhone or iPad. If you’ve blocked your child from accessing the App Store but now want to remove the restriction, you can do it remotely instead of working with the device directly.
As soon as you’re done adding a family (if you haven’t already) to your device, you’ll see their name appear in Screen Time.

Just tap your child’s name and you’ll see a series of restrictions that are reminiscent of those on your device. To restore the App Store to all devices related to your child, tap Restrict Content and Privacy, then enter the relevant passcode when prompted.

Instead of disabling the App Store entirely in the future, you can impose many other restrictions that aren’t too drastic. In the iTunes & App Store Purchases section itself, you have the option to turn off In-App Purchases to prevent your child from making purchases without your permission. Another set of controls can’t be done by going back to the Content & Privacy Restrictions screen and tapping Content Restrictions > Apps. From here, you can choose different ages to limit your child’s exposure to specific apps. Go ahead and choose an appropriate app and it will no longer be possible to download apps that exceed the age rating from the App Store.
As you can see, with some smart content restrictions, you can give your kids ready access to the App Store without too much of a worry. Is there anything else you can do?
If you see no problem with the restrictions on your iOS device, it’s possible that the App Store icon is hidden among some apps. A convenient solution to getting icons back into a place where you can easily locate them is to reset the Home screen layout.
Step 1: Simply search for and select Reset Home Screen Layout via Siri Search (swipe down from Home screen).
Step 2: On the Display Reset screen, tap Reset Home Screen Layout, then tap Reset to confirm.
Return to the Home screen and you’ll see all the default native apps — including the App Store — on the first page.
Restricted password reset
If you cannot remember the Restriction password, then removing it will not be an easy task. To get that done, you need to actually restore your iOS device to a previous backup created at the time you didn’t have the Restrict passcode. Otherwise you will get the same passcode even after recovery.
