How to Fix Instagram Copy Link Option Not Showing

Instagram allows you to share posts, stories and Stories with your friends.

You can do so by copying the link of the photo or video and sending it to your friends.

Previously, you could copy an Instagram Story’s link by tapping the three dots.

After you tap on the three dots, you will be presented with many options like “Share”, “Link” and “Save”.

If you select “Link”, the Story link will be copied to your clipboard.

However, some users have reported that the link option is missing from the menu.

In this guide, you’ll learn how to fix the Instagram copy link option that isn’t showing or working for Stories, posts, or stories.

Why is the copy link option missing in Instagram?

Copy link option is missing from Instagram Stories, posts and stories because Instagram has moved this option.

The option has been moved from three dots to a share icon.

Above the three dots, you’ll see a paper airplane icon—this is the icon you need to select.

Previously, you could copy a link to a Story, post or story by tapping the three dots followed by “Link”.

Now, if you tap on the three dots, you will only see a “Save” option.

To fix the Instagram copy link option not showing up, you need to tap the share icon instead of the three dots.

After you tap the share icon, tap “Copy Link” to copy the URL of the Story, post or story.

The share icon is a paper airplane icon above the three dots.

Alternatively, you can download an older version of Instagram if you want the option to copy the link back to its original location.

Other troubleshooting methods that you can try include updating Instagram and clearing the app cache.

Note: Instagram has moved the “Copy link” option from a three-dot icon to a share icon.

Remove the Instagram app from your Android device.
Go to https://instagram.en.uptodown.com/android.
Select “Older Version” and install the older version of Instagram.
Open Instagram and the “Copy Link” option will be returned to its original position (three-dot menu).

Note: This method only works for Android devices.

If the “Copy Link” option is still not showing, try the following troubleshooting methods:

Force quit and reopen: Swipe up from the bottom of the screen, navigate to the Instagram card, and swipe up.
Sign out and in: Open the Instagram app > Profile > Menu > Settings > Sign out > Sign in again.
Uninstall and reinstall: Touch and hold the Instagram app, delete and reinstall from the App Store or Google Play Store.
Wait: If Instagram is down, you’ll need to wait 24 hours or more for the server-side issue(s) to be fixed and for the copy link option to show up again.
Clear Instagram cache: Force quit Instagram > open Settings app > Apps > Instagram > Storage > Clear cache > Clear data > reopen Instagram.
Update Instagram: Open the App Store/Google Play Store, search for “Instagram” and select “Update”.
