How to Edit or Delete Contacts in iOS 7 (Plus More Tips)

Delete contact

Contact is important. Not only for your personal life but your professional life as well. Loss of communication can lead to missed opportunities and problems. That’s why it’s always safe to sync your contacts with multiple accounts or keep a backup file in a safe place.

What iOS doesn’t do easily is manage and delete contacts. The settings are usually not in your face. You have to go look for them. To save you time, here are the best practices you should follow.

Fix duplicate accounts

When I first set up my iPhone, I saw all my contacts twice. None of that is stored locally. I did a search and realized that both iCloud and Gmail contacts were enabled. And because my iCloud address is my Gmail address, it carries the same contacts.

If this happens to you too, just go Setting -> Mail, Contacts, Calendar and from Google or iCloud uncheck the contacts option.

Edit or delete individual contacts

For all the great updates iOS 7 gets, it doesn’t make editing contacts any easier. go Contact app, select the contact you want to edit by tapping it.

A new page with all the contact details will open. From the top right position Editor button. Tap on it and all fields will be editable. You can add any information you want here.

If you’re looking to add a number, use green + and add a new number. You can even label some as work or home. Click on the label to see all the options. If you feel like it, you can even add your own custom labels.

Delete Contact

The delete option for a contact is well hidden. After you touch Editor button, you’ll have to swipe to the bottom of the page (usually 2-3 swipes) to find Delete contact button marked in red.
