When compared to videos and flash animations, GIF files have a distinct advantage. They don’t require any additional plugins to play on the device, are relatively small in size, and can be easily transferred to other devices without worrying about data transfer speeds. And while these GIF images don’t offer super-smooth transitions, they’ve become very popular lately.
For those of you who think that creating GIF files is a tedious task, you are wrong. Today I’m going to talk about an app for Android, called GIF Maker, which quickly creates GIF files with minimal effort. Using the app, you can directly take a GIF with the camera, edit an existing GIF and also create a new GIF using any video saved on your device or even by importing videos from YouTube.
So let’s see how the app works.
GIF Maker for Android
Once you install and launch GIF Maker, it will give you the option to record a video for your GIF or import an existing video from your phone or from YouTube. If you have a series of continuous shots from your camera, these can also be converted to GIFs. For our purposes, we’ll use the video method to create our GIF, but the options are the same no matter what the input.
So click Videotapes options and import videos from SD card. When you select a video, you will be taken to the edit screen. At the bottom of the editor, you’ll find a timeline where you can set the start and end points of your GIF. At the top there is an editing panel where you can set the size of the file and the frames per second you want to see. When you change these settings, the app will show you the approximate dimensions of the final image.
Finally, click Next and choose Create GIF to display the file. Rendering can take a considerable amount of time based on the quality of the GIF. Some devices with little memory to spare may even experience unresponsiveness and the application may have trouble rendering. In the app settings, you can configure the default GIF quality settings and choose the folder where you want to save the GIF files created by the app. Lower quality will give your device less trouble handling.
Note: To create a video from a YouTube file, click Share on your YouTube app, select the option GIFMaker_YouTube, and then follow the same steps. Just make sure you are connected to a Wi-Fi network while creating GIFs from YouTube.
Conclusion
The app delivers what it promises but takes up a lot of Android system resources in the process. The application may not even work on low-end devices with weak CPU processing speed.
