What happens when you delete a WhatsApp contact
Since you will delete the contact from your phone book, you will lose the ability to make calls or send messages directly to them. That is, you will have to enter the number in other apps to contact them manually.

Android
Step 1: Launch WhatsApp and open the chat thread of the contact you want to delete.
Step 2: Tap the contact name at the top.

Step 4: Contact details will open. Tap the three-dot icon at the top and select Delete from the menu. A pop-up will appear asking you to confirm the deletion. Click Delete.
Iphone
Step 1: Open WhatsApp and go to the contact you want to delete. Then, on the chat screen, tap the contact’s name at the top.
Step 2: On the Contact Info screen, tap Edit.
Step 3: You will be taken to the Edit Contact screen. Tap Delete contact. Then restart your phone.
Alternatively, open the address book or contacts app on your Android or iPhone, find the contact, and delete it from there.
The contact will be removed from your WhatsApp. However, if it still shows up, follow the troubleshooting modes mentioned below.
Deleted contacts still show up in WhatsApp
If you have followed the above steps correctly but your contacts still appear in your WhatsApp, there are three ways to fix it.
1. Refresh WhatsApp Contacts on Android
WhatsApp takes some time to automatically refresh the contact list. You can do it manually on Android. To do that, open WhatsApp and tap on the floating compose button or the new chat button.

Then, tap the three-dot icon and select Refresh from the menu. After doing that, find the deleted contact. Hopefully it won’t appear in WhatsApp.
2. Delete chat
Deleting contacts will not remove their old chat thread from WhatsApp. So if you still see the chat, you will have to delete it manually.
To do so on Android, touch and hold the chat thread in the chat list. Then tap the delete icon at the top.
On iPhone, swipe left on the chat thread and tap More. Then tap Delete chat.
3. Restart the phone
Finally, if the above two methods fail, restart your phone.
Do other people know when you delete a WhatsApp contact
Whether you delete a contact or just a chat thread, WhatsApp will not notify others about it. However, when you delete your contact and privacy settings for last viewed, about, and status is set to Contacts Only, they may become suspicious as these will be lost to them.
Delete blocked contacts on WhatsApp
If you thought blocked contacts might have perks, you’re sorry to disappoint as there’s no separate delete button for them. You need to remove the blocked contact from your phone book like a regular contact to remove it from WhatsApp.
Should you delete contacts
As you have seen above, deleting a contact is a difficult step because you need to delete the primary contact from your address book itself. So unless you don’t want to contact that person again through any app, you can go ahead and remove them from your phone.
However, if you only want to remove them from WhatsApp and not from your phone, then you can try other ways to avoid them on WhatsApp.
Alternatives to delete contacts
The easiest way is to block that person on WhatsApp. When you block a person, they will not be able to contact you and you will also lose the ability to contact them on WhatsApp. They also won’t be able to see your profile picture, profile picture, and information about your last viewed section. Fortunately, other applications remain unaffected.
