GIFs are already supported on IM (Instant Messaging) applications, social media, and even presentation software like Google Slides. Here’s how you can add GIFs to Google Slides web and iPad.
Add GIFs to Google Web Slides
We’ll first show you how to add GIFs to Google Slides on the web, and then move on to the Google Slides iPad app.
Step 1: Open Google Slides on the web and select a presentation you want to edit.
You can also create a presentation from scratch or choose from one of the built-in Google Slides templates.
Step 2: Select a slide to which you want to add the GIF.
Step 3: Click the Insert menu at the top.
Step 4: Select Image.
You have two options – upload the GIF from your computer or use the URL to insert the GIF directly.
Step 5: Select Upload from computer and find the saved GIF file to upload.
Don’t worry about finding the right GIF for your presentation. You can go to GIPHY and find the perfect GIF to go with your presentation.
You can right-click the GIF and save it as an image (then upload using the steps above).
You can also click the Share button and copy the GIF link. Once you copy the GIF link, follow the steps below to insert it into Google Slides.
Step 6: From the menu Insert > Image, select By URL.
Step 7: Check out the live GIF preview and hit the Insert button at the bottom.
You’ll see the GIF appear on your presentation slide. Don’t worry about how the GIF looks in the slide. We will talk about GIF editing options in Google Slides later in the post.
Insert GIFs into Google Slides on iPad
Let us get this straight. You can’t add GIFs via URL on the Google Slides app for iPad. You must save GIFs on your iPad to integrate them into your presentation. Let us show you how to download GIFs on iPad and then we will insert them into Google Slides.
Step 1: Open Safari or your favorite browser on iPad.
Step 2: Go to GIPHY on the web and find the GIF you’re looking for.
Step 3: Long press on the GIF and select the Save Image option.
The browser will download the GIF to the Photos app on the iPad. Let’s add GIFs to the Google Slides app.
Step 1: Open the Google Slides app on your iPad and find the presentation.
Step 2: Select a slide and tap the + icon at the top.
Step 3: Click on Image and select From Photos.
Select the GIF from the Photos app and insert it into the presentation.

Edit GIFs in Google Slides Web
Google Slides offers a variety of formatting options to customize the look and position of the GIF in the presentation.
Step 1: Right-click the inserted GIF image in Google Slide and select Format options from the context menu.
Step 2: You will see the Format options menu appear on the right side.
Size and rotate: You can size GIF, angle, in presentation slide.
Location: You can always drag and drop the GIF to another location, or use the Location option to move the GIF to an exact location.
Recolor: Do you want to apply a filter to your GIF? You can expand the Re-color menu and choose one of the filters to change the look of the GIF.
Adjustment: This adjustment is more suitable for images in Google Slides. You can adjust the transparency, brightness and contrast of the added GIF.
