Brian Michael Firkus popularly known by the stage name Trixie Mattel is an American singer, actor, drag queen, and recognized “Skinny Legend.” She was born on August 23, 1989 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, but raised in Silver Cliff, Wisconsin, United States. He is from a Native American family in Crivitz. Trixie grew up with his mother and an abseentee father. Knowing only his stepfather who he spoke off as abusive and would call him a “Trixie” whenever he acted feminine.
The origin of his drag queen name stemed from the mere fact his stepfather usually called him when he acted as a lady and her love for the Mattel Barbie Dolls and admiration for children’s toys. At age 15 after series of abuses from his stepfather, he moved in with his grandfather, a country musician who later taught him to play the guitar. Brian Michael Firkus enrolled at the Peck School of the Arts in the University of Wisconsin after graduating from high school. He received a BFA in Musical Theatre and was introduced to drag while performing in a production of The Rocky Horror Show at the Oriental Theatre.
He did a drag performance at LaCage NiteClub in Milwaukee and immediately became a regular in the business. He has collaborated with Kim Chi and Shea Couleé who were fellow drag queens from Milwaukee aside performing occasionally in Chicago too. In 2014, he attended a beauty school.
