Who is Mario Chalmers?
Almario Vernard “Mario” Chalmers was born on May 19, 1986 in Anchorage, Alaska, United States. He is the second and only son of Almarie and Ronnie Chalmers, both of whom are basketball talent developers. He has an older sister called Roneka Chalmers.
Mario’s father is a former basketball head coach at Bartlett High School and the Assistant Coach at the University of Kansas while his mother coached many basketball camps and has written a book about raising a basketball family titled The Ball is in Your Court: Embracing Your Child’s Dreams.
Chalmers attended and graduated from Bartlett High School. He played high school basketball and was named the 4A State Player of the Year three times in a row. Mario joined Trajan Langdon as the only other player to have received such acclaim.
During his high school days, he led his team to two state championships in 2002 and 2003 and a runner-up finish in 2004. When he was a senior playing in the 2004-05 season, he was named a McDonald’s All-American as well as a third-team Parade All-American.
Mario had numerous choices at his disposal when it came to college but he chose University of Kansas on May 21, 2004. He began his collegiate career on the bench behind guard Jeff Hawkins.
Eventually, he made his way into the team and ended the freshman year averaging 11.5 points per game, the second-highest on the team. He went on to set the KU and Bog 12 Conference record for the most steals in a season by a freshman with 89.

Mario was selected as the 34th overall pick in the 2008 NBA draft by the Minnesota Timberwolves after playing three seasons of college basketball who later traded his draft rights to the Miami Heat, and he subsequently signed a deal with the Heat.
Mario went on to star for the Heat for seven seasons from 2008 to 2015 in the National Basketball Association (NBA), playing as a starting point guard and winning two two championships in 2012 and 2013.
After his time with the Heat came to an end, he was traded to the Grizzlies in November 2015. Mario spent the 2016 season on the sidelines due to an injury. After missing a season due to injury he returned with the team in the 2017 offseason before going overseas and G-League in 2018.
