Patrick Leonard Sajdak who’s known in the entertain sphere simply as Pat Sajak was born on October 26, 1946 in Chicago, Illinois, United States. He attended Farragut High School and graduated in 1964. Later, he enrolled in Columbia College Chicago while working as a desk clerk at the Palmer House hotel. After college, he started his career in broadcasting at a local radio station and later served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War as a disc jockey.
He is best known as the host of the American television game show Wheel of Fortune, a position he has held since 1981. For his work on Wheel, Sajak has received 19 nominations for the Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Game Show Host, winning three times. In 2019, he was recognized by the Guinness World Records for having the longest career as a game show host for the same show, surpassing previous record holder Bob Barker.
Aside his longest service career as a game show host, he has been featured in films, television series and other game shows such as Rugrats, Days of Our Lives, Airplane II and The Sequel. Sajak also hosted CBS’ late-night talk show from 1989 to 1990 while frequently appearing as a guest host for CNN’s Larry King Live and the syndicated Live with Regis and Kelly.
Sajak has been involved in a variety of other endeavors, including serving as an external director of conservative publishing house Eagle Publishing and writing for the National Review Online and Ricochet.co. Sajak has been married twice, first of which was with Sherill Sajak from 1979 to 1986. He remarried in 1989 to Lesly Brown Sajak with whom he has two children. In 2019, he underwent successful surgery for an intestinal blockage. As of 2021, Sajak has also been credited as a Consulting Producer of Wheel of Fortune and hosts Prime Time Celebrity Wheel of Fortune on ABC alongside Vanna White.
