How difficulty settings work in Super Mario Bros Wonder

Super Mario Bros Wonder is shaping up to be one of the best 2D Mario games yet, but if you’re curious about the game’s difficulty settings, we’ve got you covered in this guide.

Wonder takes the classic 2D Mario gameplay we all know and love and adds a lot of creativity and weirdness to the formula. It also has co-op multiplayer so you can play with friends! From turning into elephants to riding warp pipes, Wonder might be the most bizarre Mario platformer yet, and I’m glad the series is shifting away from the standard formula from the recent 2D games.

Mario games typically don’t have difficulty settings like many other games do. Instead, this game offers you a different challenge depending on the character you want to play. So without further ado, here’s everything we know about the difficulty settings in Wonder.

Super Mario Bros Wonder’s difficulty settings are actually determined by the character you pick.

For the normal experience, you can play as Mario, Luigi, Peach, Daisy, Toad or Toadette. All of these characters will play the same, and they don’t have any kind of unique bonuses like in other games.

As far as we know, there’s no hard mode in the game, but Mario games typically aren’t very hard until the secret end-game levels. There’s an easier mode if you want a more carefree experience, and we’ll explain everything you need to know about that below.

If you want to make the game easier, you can play as either Nabbit or Yoshi. If you pick these characters you won’t take any damage, but you also won’t transform with power-ups. No Elephant Nabbit or Yoshi unfortunately!

However that’s not a bad trade-off for making the game much easier, so if you really don’t want any challenge you can pick these characters and explore without having to worry about taking damage.

Yoshi will also be able to flutter jump, giving you extra height when jumping, and even eat objects and spit them back out at enemies. Nabbit doesn’t have those special abilities but he won’t take any damage just like Yoshi.

That’s everything we know about the Super Mario Bros Wonder’s difficulty settings. Hopefully, that answers any questions you might have regarding the game’s difficulty!
