Hope Hicks was a teen model who debuted in Greenwich magazine in 2002. She later appeared in a Ralph Lauren campaign alongside her older sister Mary Grace, and she was the face of the Hourglass Adventures novels, which featured a time-traveling 10-year-old. She appeared on the cover of Cecily von Ziegesar’s first novel, The It Girl (2005).

Hicks graduated in 2006 from Greenwich High School, where she was co-captain of the lacrosse team. She then went on to Southern Methodist University, where she majored in English and participated in a club lacrosse program she helped establish. She received her diploma in 2010.

Hicks reportedly began her career in public relations with the Zeno Group in the United States of American city, New York City. After meeting the firm’s founder at a Super Bowl event in 2012, she joined Hiltzik Strategies and worked for Donald Trump’s daughter Ivanka Trump, first on her fashion line and then on other Trump ventures.

Hicks began working full-time for the Trump Organization in August 2014. She worked inside Trump Tower for Ivanka Trump, helping to expand her fashion label (the Ivanka Trump Collection) and modeling for her online store. She began working directly for Donald Trump in October 2014.

Donald Trump hired Hicks, who was 26 at the time, as press secretary for his potential presidential campaign in January 2015. Trump called her into his office. She had never worked in politics or volunteered on a campaign before.

Following Trump’s first primary victories, Hicks was asked to choose between staying with the Trump Organization and working full-time on the campaign. She had planned to leave the campaign, but Trump persuaded her to stay.

During the campaign, she served as a gatekeeper for reporters wishing to speak with Trump, handling over 250 requests per day and deciding which reporters would be permitted to do so.

Hicks also took dictation from Trump for his tweets, and then passed the text on to another member of the Trump organization, who sent the tweets from Trump’s official account.

When she was in New York, she spent the majority of her time in Trump’s office, answering press questions and taking dictation from him to tweet.

On December 22, 2016, it was announced that Hicks would join the Trump administration as the White House director of strategic communications, a newly created position.

She was named interim White House communications director on August 16, 2017. (the last director having been Anthony Scaramucci). Politico dubbed her “Untouchable Hope Hicks,” because she was regarded as one of the few White House officials whose job was secure, and one of only two White House communications officials Scaramucci had announced would be staying when he was first hired.

On September 12, 2017, she was named permanent White House communications director.

Hicks testified before the House Intelligence Committee for nine hours behind closed doors on February 27, 2018.

She admitted that as communications director, she had to tell “white lies” on occasion, but she refused to answer any questions about her time in the White House.

Hicks served as Fox Corporation’s chief communications officer and executive vice president from March 2018 to March 2020. During this time, she earned more than $1.8 million.

It was announced in February 2020 that Hicks would return to the White House as an aide to Jared Kushner and a counselor to President Donald Trump.

During the George Floyd protests in Washington on June 1, 2020, Hicks and others suggested that Trump walk across the street to St. John’s Episcopal Church to make a public appearance.
