In July 2022, the High Court dismissed Motsoeneng’s attempt to appeal the repayment of R11.5 million, which had been acquired unlawfully during an SABC deal with MultiChoice. This legal development further highlighted the issues surrounding his past actions at the SABC.
On December 13, 2018, at the Garden Court Milpark Hotel in Johannesburg, Motsoeneng made a significant move by launching a political party called the African Content Movement. He announced that the party was registered with the Electoral Commission and intended to participate in the 2019 South African general election. Motsoeneng’s political manifesto included ambitious promises, such as his aspiration to become president, a commitment to increase local production, a focus on economic empowerment for the people, plans to make company workers shareholders, and proposals to influence foreign companies to leave the country and reduce social grants.
Despite his political ambitions, the African Content Movement received a relatively modest number of votes in the 2019 South African general election, garnering 4,841 votes, which amounted to 0.03% of the total vote, underlining the challenges Motsoeneng faced in his political endeavors.
