Vasseur received his degree from ESTACA and started the ASM team in 1996. This team, in collaboration with Renault, won the French Formula 3 championship with David Saelens in 1998.
From 2004 to 2007, it also won the Formula 3 Euroseries championships with Jamie Green, Lewis Hamilton, Paul di Resta, and Romain Grosjean.
He founded the ART Grand Prix team in 2004 with Nicolas Todt, which went on to win the GP2 Series championship in 2005 and 2006 with Lewis Hamilton.
He received a contract from the FIA at the end of 2013 for his newly founded firm Spark Racing Technology to build the 40 chassis for the first Formula E championship; the company has kept this deal ever since.
During the 2016 Formula One season, Vasseur joined Renault Sport as team principal of the recently established Renault Sport Formula One Team. After having issues with the managing director, Cyril Abiteboul, on how the team should be operated, he quit at the conclusion of the 2016 campaign.
On July 12, 2017, Sauber made the announcement that Vasseur had been appointed team principal and managing director of the Sauber F1 Team as well as CEO of Sauber Motorsport AG.
Scuderia Ferrari announced Team Principal Mattia Binotto’s resignation on December 13, 2022. Vasseur was subsequently chosen as his successor. After Jean Todt, he will be the second Frenchman and the fourth non-Italian to lead the Scuderia.
