Frame rate, ray tracing & more

Armored Core 6’s resolution and performance modes give you the choice between how you want the game to run on your system, depending on whether you want to favour graphical fidelity or frame rate overall.

Resolution and performance modes are standard in many games now, and Armored Core 6 not only gives gamers these options, but also adds some additional choices to tweak their experience in the game.

So whether you’re a PlayStation or Xbox player, here’s everything you need to know about Armored Core 6’s different modes, alongside our picks for the best graphic settings you’ll want to be using in-game.

The resolution mode in Armored Core 6 is called Prioritize Quality, which focuses on the look of the game over how it runs. It runs up to 4K (3840×2160) and uses higher-quality assets and lighting to make improve the overall image. The game targets 60 frames per second in this mode, but is unlikely to be consistent.

A feature of Prioritize Quality is the use of Ray Tracing. This impressive graphical technique creates much more realistic lighting. However, the feature only applies in the Garage, not during gameplay.

HDR capabilities can be used in either graphical mode, but this works better when using Prioritize Quality. This is only available on displays that support HDR, which you can customise further by adjusting luminosity and saturation.

Prioritize Frame Rate is the performance mode of Armored Core 6. This mode uses less complex graphical assets, and reduced lighting and effects to improve the frame rate of the game.

In this mode, the game runs at a consistent 60 frames per second on both PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, while keeping the resolution relatively high too.

This is in contrast to the PC version, which can reach as high as 120 frames per second, provided you have the hardware to run it.

What’s the best Armored Core 6 performance setting?

For a game like Armored Core 6, your best bet is to Prioritize Frame Rate and performance. The action is fast and frenetic, there can be dozens of things to keep track of on-screen at once, and you need those extra frames to stay on top of it all.

While Armored Core 6 is a very good-looking game, it isn’t exactly a graphical stunner. The visuals are striking not because of fancy graphics, but because of the world and art design. These things are not lost in the Prioritize Frame Rate mode, so the visuals are still incredible.

What can be lost is the feel of the action if the frame rate cannot keep up, so we’d highly recommend you choose Prioritize Frame Rate in Armored Core 6.
