Erling Haaland finalises his next destination

Norwegian superstar Erling Haaland has reportedly finalised his next club, suggest reports. According to Fabrizio Romano, the Dortmund striker will be moving to the bluer side of Manchester in the upcoming transfer window.

Haaland’s rise through the years

Bryne

Erling started his career in his boyhood club, Bryne. He joined them as a 5-year-old and went up through the ranks of the academy. After getting promoted to the reserve team, he scored an astonishing tally of 18 goals from just 14 appearances. His brilliance with the reserves got him a much-deserved promotion to the main team, but he failed to live up to the expectations. The then 16-year-old failed to score any goals in the Norwegian 2nd division.

Molde

On 1st February 2017, Molde Fotballklub announced the signing of Erling Haaland from Bryne. He scored on his debut against Volda TI in the Norwegian cup, securing a 3-2 win for his team. His league debut came one and a half months later against Sarpsborg, coming on as a 71st-minute substitute. Although his start in the first division wasn’t particularly memorable as he got a yellow card in the first minute on the pitch itself, he redeemed himself quick and scored the winner 6 minutes later. Haaland scored 4 times in twenty appearances in his first season.

Next season on 1st July 2018, he grabbed the world’s eyeballs when he scored 4 goals in just 21 minutes against the then-unbeaten league leaders in Norway. Molde manager Ole Gunnar Solskjær compared Haaland’s style of play to Belgian forward Romelu Lukaku after the game. That season, the young prodigy scored 16 times in 30 appearances. Haaland received the Eliteserien Breakthrough of the Year award that season as well.

RB Salzburg

After a brilliant couple of seasons in the Norwegian first division, Erling moved abroad and joined Red Bull Salzburg in Austria. There, Haaland transformed into a beast, owing to his performances. In a period between July 26th to September 14th in 2019, Haaland made 7 league appearances, scoring a whopping 11 goals and setting up further 5 assists. Three days later, he made his Champions League debut, notching up another hattrick against Genk in a 6-2 victory.

Erling Haaland’s next two European appearances saw him scoring against Liverpool at the Anfield and another 2 against Napoli. By doing so, he became only the 2nd teenager after Karim Benzema to score in the first 3 appearances in the UCL.

On 27 November, Haaland came off the bench to score another goal against Genk, joining Del Piero, Serhii Rebrov, Neymar, Cristiano Ronaldo and Robert Lewandowski as the only players to score in the first five matches of a Champions League group stage. He also became the first teenager to achieve this feat.

Haaland in Borussia Dortmund

Haaland’s performances caught worldwide attention and clubs like Manchester United and Juventus targetted his coveted signing. However, German giants Borussia Dortmund won the race to bring in his services. The Norwegian arrived with a 20 million transfer fee, signing for 4.5 years with the black yellows.

Haaland quickly adopted the Dortmund style of play and started doing what he does the best – scoring goals. Records tumbled upon one another as Haaland ran a rampage in Germany. In his first UEFA Champions League season with Dortmund, Haaland scored 6 goals in his first 4 appearances. Erling Haaland became the fastest player to notch up 15 (as well as 16) goals in Europe’s premier club competition. He achieved the feat in just 12 appearances. Although he was brilliant in front of the goal, injuries were a cause of concern for the youngster.

Transfer to Manchester City

Fabrizio Romano revealed that Erling Haaland has agreed to join Manchester City on a permanent deal. The Blues activated his release clause which was somewhere near €60 million to seal the move. The Norwegian will stay at the Etihad till June 2027 and will be earning close to £375000 per week.

Erling Haaland has been a beast in front of the goal, especially in the Champions League. Manchester City has struggled with scoring goals this season, and their continental luck has so far been terrible. Will Haaland be able to solve both the issues for Manchester City? Only time can answer.
