He was born on April 3, 1961, in Brooklyn, New York, United States. Eddie Murphy attended Roosevelt Junior-Senior High School where he was a member of the drama club and also the school’s first black student body president.

After completing high school, Eddie Murphy attended Nassau Community College but did not complete his studies and dropped out to pursue a career in comedy.

He’s known for his diverse and comedic roles in movies which have earned him numerous accolades throughout his career, including a Golden Globe Award, and an Academy Award nomination, among others.

Eddie Murphy is also a voice actor and has lent his voice to a number of animated films and TV series, including “Shrek” and “Mulan.” In January 2023, he made headlines when he referenced the infamous Will Smith Oscars slap at the 80th Golden Globes Awards during a speech.
