De Matteo, of Italian heritage, was raised in a Catholic family. She pursued her education at the Loyola School before obtaining a Bachelor of Fine Arts in film production from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts. Initially aspiring to be a film director, she further honed her craft by studying acting at the HB Studio.

Her breakout role as Adriana La Cerva in The Sopranos marked the beginning of her successful career. In a tragic turn of events, de Matteo, along with dozens of other residents, lost her apartment of 22 years in a gas explosion and fire that destroyed three buildings in Manhattan’s East Village on March 26, 2015.

They share two children together, a daughter named Alabama Gypsyrose Jennings and a son named Waylon Albert “Blackjack” Jennings. Despite their engagement, Jennings and de Matteo eventually parted ways without tying the knot. In July 2015, de Matteo found love again and became engaged to Michael Devin, the bass guitarist of Whitesnake.
