Dragon’s Dogma 2 has no in-game clock, so here’s how to tell time

You’ll often be fighting a battle against Mother Time in Dragon’s Dogma 2, as there are terrors that hide within the dark of night, and many quests that require you to sneak through the shadows.

The game, unfortunately, has no visible clock – so you’ll need to figure out other ways of telling the time as you journey through the open world – but they might be a little bit more archaic than you might expect.

How to tell the time in Dragon’s Dogma 2

Beyond looking at the sun itself, the only way to tell the time in-game is to check the sundial in the pause menu.

Always remember that the sun rises in the east (right) and sets in the west (left), so tracking the sun’s position around this dial will let you know where you are in the day.

This is particularly useful for quests that require you to enter an area at a particular time, but I found it essential to check whenever I stumbled upon a campfire on my travels, as I never wanted to be left stranded in the night with no way of resting.

Once you’ve figured out the time you’ll often want to change it, and that can be done by dozing off at a nearby bench, resting at an inn, or sleeping at a campfire.

Dozing off at a bench (or ‘Passing Time’ at a bar) will only progress time by about 6 hours, whereas sleeping at your camp, at an inn, or even in your own house allows you to select either the morning or night as a waking-up point. Do be careful when passing time though, as there is a chance that your food will rot, leaving you with nothing to cook.

The only other option you have to pass the time is while riding an Oxcart, but you’ll wake up either when the journey is finished, or if it’s interrupted by an enemy attack along the way.

While you’re waiting for time to pass in-game why not head over to our Dragon’s Dogma 2 homepage, where you can find all of the tips and tricks you’ll need to survive like how to fast travel, the best Vocations, and the best Thief build.
