Douglas Macgregor children-Former U.S. Army Colonel, consultant & TV commentator, Douglas Abbott Macgregor was born on January 4, 1947.
Macgregor was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in the United States of America. He attended the Wm. Penn Charter School in Philadelphia and the Virginia Military Institute before earning a BS in general engineering in 1976 from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.
In 1987, he graduated with a doctorate in international relations from the University of Virginia.

The “squadron operations officer who essentially directed the Battle of 73 Easting” during the Gulf War was Macgregor.
On February 26, 1991, he led a group of 19 tanks, 26 Bradley Fighting Vehicles, four M1064 mortar trucks, and an Iraqi Republican Guard opponent to the 73 Easting. In 23-minute combat, they destroyed over 70 Iraqi armored vehicles while sustaining no American losses.
With Eagle Troop on the right and Ghost Troop on the left, he was at the formation’s front center. Macgregor positioned himself to the left of Eagle Troop and selected it as the primary attack.

Burke-Macgregor, LLC, a consultancy business with headquarters in Reston, Virginia, employs Macgregor as vice president.
He contested General James F. Amos’ position in the US Marine Corps in 2012. According to Macgregor, the Marines, and the Army’s XVIII Airborne Corps were both “as relevant as the Army’s horse cavalry in the 1930s” due to their military prowess and pertinence.
High-ranking commanders are now expected to study MacGregor’s 2003 book, Transformation under Fire, according to Aviv Kochavi, Chief of the Israeli Defense Force General Staff.
On February 17, 2020, Macgregor made a trip to Israel to meet with the IDF General Staff and a number of senior officers to talk about General Kohavi’s current initiative to reshape the IDF for upcoming 21st-century warfighting missions.
The White House disclosed Donald Trump’s intention to appoint Macgregor as the United States’ ambassador to Germany on July 27, 2020.
As part of a significant restructuring of the senior defense staff, the Pentagon said on November 11, 2020, that President Trump had appointed Macgregor to the position of senior advisor to the new Acting Secretary of Defense, Christopher Miller.
At the time, Macgregor supported Trump’s strategy of withdrawing from Afghanistan, which was opposed by the military establishment.
Senator Rand Paul, who called Macgregor a buddy, applauded his appointment. Due to Macgregor’s previous remarks disparaging refugees, the appointment generated criticism. He served in that capacity until January 2021, when Trump departed office.
Macgregor was nominated by President Trump to a three-year term on the advisory board of his alma mater, the United States Military Academy at West Point, in December 2020.
