Under head coaches Les Miles and Ed Orgeron, Jackson participated in LSU’s football program from 2015 until 2017. Choosing not to pursue his senior year, he entered the 2018 NFL Draft after finishing his junior year in 2017.
He had one sack, four interceptions, and 110 tackles in his career. On the LSU track and field team, Jackson was a skilled sprinter. In the 60 and 100 meters, he has set personal bests of 6.63 and 10.22. 2017 saw him crowned the college football team’s quickest player.

Jackson signed a four-year, $4.81 million contract with the Panthers on May 10, 2018, which includes a guaranteed $2.27 million and a $1.58 million signing bonus.
He picked off Matt Ryan for his first career interception in Week 2’s game against the Atlanta Falcons. Week 3’s 31–21 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals featured two interceptions from Jackson against Andy Dalton.

Jackson intercepted a pass from Justin Herbert in the next week’s game against the Los Angeles Chargers, and he returned it for 66 yards as the team won 21–16.
Jackson, along with rookie Jaycee Horn and seasoned A. J. Bouye, started as a cornerback in 2021. He was placed on season-ending injured reserve on November 30, 2021, following a groin injury he sustained in Week 12.
With 12 starts, he recorded 61 tackles, a forced fumble, two interceptions, and the team-high 10 passes defended by the end of the season.
Jackson and the Panthers agreed to a three-year, $35.1 million contract extension on March 19, 2022. On November 14, 2022, he was placed on season-ending injured reserve due to a torn Achilles tendon that he sustained in Week 10.
Jackson was transferred to the Pittsburgh Steelers on March 12, 2024, in exchange for seasoned wide receiver Diontae Johnson. In the agreement, the teams also traded draft picks.
