Does XDefiant have anti-cheat?

Hackers are the bane of any multiplayer gamer, ruining your fun and your KD by zipping around the map impossibly fast, spying through walls, or splatting your head against the wall with inhuman aim.

Anti-cheats are popular software made to counter these miscreants that many multiplayer games feature, but does XDefiant have one?

Does XDefiant have anti-cheat?

XDefiant does utilise an anti-cheat system called BattlEye. This anti-cheat in particular has been around since 2004, and has been paired with most multiplayer Ubisoft titles since Rainbow Six Siege launched in 2015.

The truth is that anti-cheats are vital for modern multiplayer games due to the prevalence and ease of creating cheating software; any game without it is set up for failure, and while Ubisoft often makes anti-consumer decisions, it at least knows the importance of having a robust anti-cheat in place.

You don’t need to know the 1s and 0s of how BattlEye works, but it’s described as a “proactive protection system” that stops most forms of cheating from even getting off the ground.

No anti-cheat can stop all hacks immediately though, so it utilises a dynamic detection system to quickly find anyone who manages to bypass the initial checks.

Despite all this, the eternal war of cheaters vs anti-cheats wages on, and you shouldn’t be too surprised to find a cheater when playing XDefiant.

For one, it’s free-to-play so anyone who is banned can quickly make a new account to get right back at it. Sadly, some cheat software is also so good that it can’t be detected at all.

It’s worth noting that BattEye is a constantly evolving system though, so cheats that can’t be detected today could very well be foiled in a month or so. The game is also fresh still, so you may need to give it time to find its footing.
