Do you need PlayStation Plus or Xbox Live to play Skull and Bones?

Skull and Bones is the long-anticipated pirate game from Ubisoft that began life as a spin-off to Assassins Creed: Black Flag, and many fans will be wondering if they need PlayStation Plus or Xbox Live before jumping in.

Skull and Bones will see players exploring the ocean, taking down opponents in naval combat with a customised ship. You can do this alone or with a group of pals in the game, but to do that you will, of course, need to play online.

Do you need PlayStation Plus to play Skull and Bones?

Yes, to play Skull and Bones online on PlayStation, you will need an active PlayStation Plus subscription. Even if you’re planning on playing the game by yourself, you’ll still need an active subscription as the game is always online.

There is no doubt this will be a shame for some who have no interest in playing the game with others, but it’s quite common to need to do this with the PlayStation platform (the same is true in Red Dead Online and Diablo 4, for example).

Do you need Xbox Live?

Similarly, it’s also going to require an Xbox Live subscription to play. As mentioned above, this is even the case if you’re planning on playing the game solo as the game is always online.

What about Skull and Bones on PC?

No, you won’t have to pay anything extra to play Skull and Bones on PC, because the services are completely free to use. This is a luxury that PC players are used to at this point, and it will remain the same with the open-world game from Ubisoft.
