Materials Needed
- Fabric of your choice

- Iron and ironing board
- Measuring tape
- Scissors
- Curtain rod
- Curtain clips or rings
Method
Measure Your Windows: To calculate the amount of cloth you’ll need, measure the width and height of your window. To ensure that the curtains cover the entire window and to allow for hemming, add a few inches to the height.
Select and Prepare the Fabric: Select a cloth that goes with your interior design. For no-sew projects, light fabrics like cotton or linen are easier to work with. To avoid shrinking later on and to get rid of any creases, wash and iron the fabric.
Cut the Fabric: Place the cloth flat on a sanitized surface. Mark the fabric where the cuts are to be made using your measurements. Make sure to allow an additional 2 inches for the top and bottom hems and 1 inch for the side hems when measuring for hems. Trim the fabric to the proper length.
It can be challenging to cut huge swaths of fabric with a straight, equal line across, which is necessary for an even hem, of course. If your curtains have an uneven lower edge, they will appear messy and unbalanced. If you do not have a T-square, you can mark your length at regular intervals on the fabric to establish your line, then cut to join the dots.
Hem the Edges with Fabric Adhesive Tape: Starting with the sides, make a crease by folding the fabric’s edge over by about an inch and pressing it with an iron. Inside the fold, align the fabric adhesive tape with the crease. As directed by the adhesive tape manufacturer, fold the cloth over the tape and press with a hot iron for the recommended amount of time (typically 10 to 15 seconds). By doing this, you may join the fabric without having to stitch.
For the opposite side, repeat these steps. You can now create your hem. Use a T-square or the same connect-the-dots method used for cutting to measure the hem. After aligning your tape along the marked line, remove the backing, fold the fabric edge over the tape, and push firmly to ensure it stays in place. Complete on the two sides and bottom, but leave the top.
Hem the Top and Bottom Edges: Fold the fabric over by about 2 inches at the top hem (where the curtain rod will go) and press with an iron to create a crease. After positioning the fabric adhesive tape along the inside crease of the fold, fold the cloth over the tape and iron it. Do the same with the bottom hem.
Attach the Curtain Clips: Space the curtain clips evenly apart along the upper edge of the curtain. Make sure the fabric’s weight can be supported by the clips. Attach the curtain rod to the clips. Consider adorning the edges with ornamental trim or curtain tiebacks for a more refined appearance.
Using the same technique as fabric adhesive tape, you may attach a second layer of fabric to the back to create a lined curtain. If you want to wash the curtains later, choose for washable fabric adhesive tape.
