In the 1980s, LaChapelle was connected to the 303 Gallery, which featured artists including Doug Ait. LaChapelle received a job offer from Interview magazine after people from the publication saw his artwork displayed. LaChapelle first met Andy Warhol when he was 17 years old, and although he was still a high school student, Warhol hired him as a photographer for Interview.
