CS:GO is dead, long live Counter-Strike 2. Valve’s long-running shooter has taken a headshot, but it’s come from Valve itself – with CS2 replacing the original. That means you’ll find it in your Steam library if you’ve played CS:GO, but is Counter-Strike 2 on Mac?
At the time of writing (on CS2 release day, no less), it’s not looking good – but here’s all we know about Counter-Strike 2 on Mac so far.

Unfortunately, as of right now you are unable to play Counter-Strike 2 on Mac. That confirms our suspicions from the Limited Test, which was also PC only through Windows.
It’s bound to disappoint a subsection of fans, but that’s not to say it couldn’t happen in the future – especially with Apple making (belated) strides with Mac gaming thanks to macOS Sonoma in 2023.
Will Counter-Strike 2 get macOS support?

While there is currently no macOS support for Counter-Strike 2, it would be very surprising to see it be ignored overall.
One concern for some Mac users might be the increased graphical demand for Counter-Strike 2 compared to CS:GO, as maps have far more complex lighting and things like the Counter-Strike 2 smoke grenades will be more taxing too.
However, the latest Apple M1 and M2 chips should be more than capable at 1080p and below – especially as the game has been traditionally more CPU-focused than GPU. Besides, all of the best pro players play at stretched low resolutions anyway, so you could always make the switch there.
So, that should be all you need to know if you are wondering about the Counter-Strike 2 Mac support at the moment. If you want to find out what the Counter-Strike 2 tick rate is though, make sure to check out our guide for more details.
